Meet Your Stylist:

My name is LaMonica McDuffie.  I am a native of Durham, North Carolina.  I have a Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Management from North Carolina A&T State University.  I am also a graduate of Aveda Institute’s Cosmetology School.

I’ve had a passion for hair since grade school.  My dolls were my first clients like most young girls.  My sisters became the next clients that I would get to practice on for years to come. Once I became older my clientele extended to my classmates, other faand friends.

At Hillside High School I became a student in the cosmetology program at Hillside High School.  Along with education through textbooks on sanitation, hair, skin, and nails  I was able to learn skills through weekly clinics where we serviced the public.  I did not complete the hours required by the state to obtain a license while enrolled at Hillside but my passion for hair never left.

After graduating from Hillside I continued my education completing my bachelors degree at A&T.  I then went on to work in corporate America for a few years but I did not feel fulfilled.  I would often wonder what life would be like if I explored my dreams of being a cosmetologist.  In 2014 I left corporate America and pursued my dream of being a cosmetologist by becoming a full time student at Aveda Institute in Chapel Hill, NC.

During my time as a cosmetologist student I also worked as stylist in a salon in Durham, NC part time.  While there I learned to Silk Press hair which would later become one of my specialities. I graduated from Aveda in the fall of 2015.

Upon graduation I received my cosmetology license from the NC Board of Cosmetic Arts and a couple months later Sweet Curls was born.
